Sound Insulation

Sound insulation refers to the materials or methods used to reduce the impact of noise from one room or enclosed area to another.

Some of the basic methods used to reduce sound include:

  • increasing the distance between noise source and receptor
  • installing barriers or structures to reflect, absorb or dampen the pressure created by sound waves
  • installing active anti-noise sound generators.

The purpose of acoustic insulation is to improve sound quality within an enclosed area and reduce the leakage of sound from one room to another. Acoustic insulation can also be used to reduce echoes, resonances and reverberations.
